Professor Robert Williams

Meredith - Murder and justice in Italy

This talk centres on the murder of a British student, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia in 2007 and the conviction, imprisonment and subsequent acquittal of one of her alleged murderers, Amanda Knox.

It locates the investigation and trial of Knox in the context of the Monster of Florence case, a series of murders which took place a generation earlier. The talk considers the influence of the earlier case on the Knox case and the character of the Italian judicial system.
